Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold: What to expect

Here’s a round of all the buzz!

In a shift from its usual October schedule, Made by Google 2024 will now be held on August 13. At the same time, we've already told you about the anticipated Pixel 9 series, Google Pixel Watch 3, and Pixel Buds Pro 2. But, there's also significant buzz around the upcoming Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Expected to be larger, brighter, and slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, this device generates considerable excitement. So here’s everything we know about the device, read on.

Recent buzz suggests that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will measure around 10.5mm—1.6mm slimmer than the previous Pixel Fold models. Numerous leaked images have given us a preview of the new device too. Renderings by 91mobiles and leaker Steve ‘OnLeaks’ Hemmerstoffer showcase the Pixel 9 Pro Fold in Obsidian and Porcelain colour options, offering multiple angles of these familiar hues.

These renders also reveal that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold features taller screens compared to the original Pixel Fold, which had a little compact design. The device retains familiar design elements, such as the distinctive camera housing and the power button positioned above the volume keys.

Google has also given us a closer look at the Pixel 9 Pro, teasing it as "magical" with the help of Gemini. In a 30-second video, Gemini writes a breakup letter to your “Dear old phone.”

According to 9to5Google, the Pixel 9 Pro may come with a 1-year subscription to Gemini Advanced and is expected to be the first phone to feature Gemini Nano with Multimodality. The Pixel 9 Pro is showcased in Porcelain with the tagline “Oh hi, AI.”

More anticipations hint that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold's display could be ultra-bright, reaching up to 2,700 nits—an impressive upgrade from the original Pixel Fold's 1,450 nits. However, this claim should be taken with caution, as some leaks indicate a peak brightness of 1,600 nits, specifically for HDR content, compared to the original Fold’s 1,000 nits.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to outperform Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6 in several areas, including battery life with a 4,650 mAh capacity compared to Samsung's 4,400 mAh. It will also feature an upgraded camera system, retaining the successful setup from last year's Pixel Fold, which outperformed the Galaxy Z Fold 5's cameras. If these rumours hold, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will feature a larger, brighter display while being slimmer than its Samsung counterpart, marking a significant achievement for Google.
