For the confused Gen Z readers, Space Invaders is an arcade game from the 70s that involved tiny swarms of pixelated aliens, lasers and a whole lot of fun. It was sheer fun and a tiny bug alien hitting you would make you rage quit. The new Timex T80 digital smartwatch pays homage to the iconic game that has seen many remakes since the original.
The face features the logo and the swarm of alien bugs and the laser shooter! What’s more? There’s more aliens etched at the back and the best part is that the watch plays the actual soundtrack from the game! A fun fact not many people know is that Space Invaders was the first game that had an on-going soundtrack and the music changed dynamically according to gameplay, speeding up as the enemy approached closer to your defense line. This led to the discovery of how other elements such as music and sound effects can influence the gameplay and game design!
Back to Timex though… the T80 will be available in Black, Gold and Silver finishes with a stainless steel bracelet, alarm, timer and date display. The watch will be available for $89 (approx ₹7,000).
