Apple recently announced the new version of Final Cut Pro for iPad, bring new video editing capabilities and features to the more portable and on-the-go form factor. Alongside that launch, Apple also promised to bring a new pro-video shooting app for iPhones to complement the new Final Cut Pro, and that's finally materialised. The Final Cut Camera app for iPhone and iPad is now here, giving you more control and professional-tier features when shooting video, designed to work seamlessly with Final Cut Pro 2 on iPad.
You can, of course, use the Final Cut Camera app as a standalone video capture app instead of your native camera app on iPhone and iPad. There are various custom, pro-grade controls built into the app, allowing you to monitor and modify various capture settings including resolution, frame rate, and dynamic range. You can also pick which of your iPhone camera sensors to use, monitor audio levels, and adjust white balance and exposure. Features available to use on the app depend on the camera capabilities of your iPhone, so it naturally works best with current-generation iPhone Pro variants.
While it's a nice app to use on its own, Final Cut Camera is at its best when used in a Live Multicam setup with the latest version of Final Cut Pro for iPad. You can set up and connect up to four iPhones and iPads to create a multi-camera setup to sync with a single iPad running Final Cut Pro. Users can view all four cameras simultaneously for monitoring, and also work with the feeds to pu together a finished pro-tier video shot entirely on smartphone cameras.
Final Cut Pro for iPad was launched in 2023, with the updated version released alongside the new iPad Air (M2) and iPad Pro (11) in May 2024. If you've already purchased Final Cut Pro for iPad, the new version comes as a free update. If you're a new user, it's priced at Rs. 499 per month or Rs. 4,999 per year.
