Asteroids, the classic arcade blaster, is turning 45! To celebrate, Atari has joined forces with watchmaker Nubeo for a limited-edition timepiece collection. Five distinct styles are on offer, each sporting a different strap – Nebula Blue, Plasma Pumpkin, Supernova Red, Nova Nightfall and Celestial Citrine – plus unique dial variations. 125 of each will be made, costing $499 a pop.
The Asteroids watch uses a pair of orbiting UFOs to tell the time – like in the original game where blasting UFOs earned you extra points, these celestial crafts now indicate the hour and minute. Inside, a Japanese automatic movement powers three spinning discs. A tiny disc features a replica of the game's iconic triangular spaceship, serving as the second hand. Two larger discs rotate at different speeds, showcasing asteroids tumbling through space, with UFOs that double as the hour and minute hands.

The Asteroids watch face is decked out with glow-in-the-dark "Swiss Super-LumiNova" graphics, shielded by a sapphire lens and a stainless steel case. Built to withstand the depths, it has a 21 ATM water resistance rating and a screw-down crown. The watch arrives in a protective case sporting design cues from the classic Atari Video Computer System (VCS) launched back in '77.
