Sustainable and smart

Once in a while we come across gadgets that impress us at first glance, the latest one to do so is Acer’s eKinekt Bike Desk. The BD 3 converts the kinetic energy from the rider’s pedalling to charge laptops and other devices, so you can basically sync exercise and work. One hour of constant cycling at 60 RPM can generate 75 watts of self-generated power. It’s good for health as well as good for the environment and of course sustainable.

It features two USB Type-A and one USB Type-C port for charging multiple devices, an LCD charging indicator that lights up when pedalling, telling you that kinetic energy is being converted and a companion smartphone app that provides information to help riders stay on track with their progress during exercise regimes. You can also adjust the resistance, seat and desk height based on convenience.

There is a bag hook and a beverage holder (in case you wish to take the bike to the office someday, wink wink).

There are two modes: in Working Mode, the desk surface moves closer to the chair to let you sit in an upright position while typing and pedalling, and in Sports Mode, the desktop sits further forward offering enough room for added leg space and increased pedalling power.

The Acer’s eKinekt Bike Desk is priced at $999 (₹82,276). It is not yet launched in the country so stay tuned to know when it hits the Indian market.
