Known more for its high-end separates, Brit hi-fi brand Chord is almost royalty in audiophile circles. But they’ve also earned a handsome reputation when it comes to sprucing up the sound from laptops, smartphones and other portable audio devices. The Mojo was a huge success and the Mojo 2 comes with substantial improvements that also include a “world’s first” claim. Curious?
Chord claims to have developed the first lossless UHD DSP which, besides improving sound quality, also offers customisation over the sound. It’s almost like a built-in EQ but one that doesn’t degrade the sound in any way, unlike conventional EQs that add their own distortion. There’s also a USB-C input now to keep up with modern devices. Of course, the optical, coaxial and micro-USB inputs remain.
Battery life sees a slight bump too, with a total run time of a little over eight hours but you could also just keep it plugged in to a power source to be used as a desktop class DAC. Twin headphone outputs let you and a friend reap the benefits of Chord’s engineering simultaneously and if you own a pair of wired headphones which cost more than your phone, the Mojo 2 should be on your upgrade shortlist.
