Dyson Global Dust study reveals we're cleaning more but not necessarily the best way

Living with dust

Since the pandemic, we’ve been spending more time at home, and naturally most of us have seen a change in our cleaning habits. While that’s made our moms happy, Dyson says that we are likely not following the right practices.
Dyson’s Dust Study 2022 has found that 46% of Indians have significantly increased the frequency of cleaning their space. In fact, two in three Indians clean their homes five-times a week, which puts them right at the top of the Asia Pacific region.
It sounds great, but the Dyson study has found that one in three Indians are motivated to clean only after seeing dust on their floors. This is a startling number when compared to the global average of 40%. The reason why this is a particularly dangerous habit is because most of the time dust particles are microscopic in size, and not visible to the naked eyes.
This lack of motivation comes down to the lack of awareness about just how harmful dust can be. According to the study, 40% of Indians don’t consider dust to be particularly harmful, even though in nearly 70% of Indian homes, at least one person suffers from dust-related health issues.
This lack of awareness is further highlighted in stats like 29% Indians being surprised by skin flakes being a part of dust or 22% Indians being unaware that household dust can potentially carry viruses. In fact, 35% Indians thought that household dust is mostly made up of soil and sand.
