Dyson, the company behind those fancy
Star Wars-like
vacuum cleaners and that peculiar Airwrap, has announced a rather bizarre product. Called the Dyson Zone, it is a pair of headphones that is also an air purifier. Confused? You’re not alone.
If the images are anything to go by, the wearer will look like a mix of Great Saiyaman and Bane. In essence, this is Dyson’s first foray into the audio space and wearable air purifier.
On the headphone side of things, Dyson says that these bulky cans are designed to offer a ‘faithful reproduction of a musician’s original track’. There’s noise cancellation courtesy of a series of microphones, and there are three levels to choose from. When the face visor is up, ANC is enabled, when the visor is down, it enters conversation mode, and the third mode is transparency. They charge using USB-C, and it connects via the Dyson Link app.
On the purification side of things, the Zone pulls in dirty air from each earpiece using tiny compressors, and the clean air is then filtered across the wearer’s face through a “visor”. This visor doesn’t stick to the face, but instead maintains a slight gap and is attached via a series of magnets. It can be flipped up and down easily to let users talk normally without taking off the whole apparatus.
