Nothing brings back child-like curiosity like riding a bike down an uncharted road. If you are a fan of taking the road less travelled, you might want to get your hands on Garmin’s latest bicycle accessories – The Edge 1040 Solar and the Varia RCT715. These will guide you through the thick and thin (terrain obviously), and protect you by monitoring your progress and keeping you aware of your surroundings.
The Edge 1040 Solar (₹72,990) is a cycling computer with over 100 hours of battery life courtesy of the power Glass solar charging lens. Equipped with Multi-band GNSS technology, the device gives you more accurate positioning and coverage, with turn-by-turn navigation. Offering insights into your riding strengths and weaknesses to help you improve, it provides you with power targets (giving you that extra push you so desperately need).
It makes use of Firstbeat Analytics to monitor VO2 max, recovery time, training load, training focus and keep track of your body’s responses. It is simple to set up and connects easily to the Garmin Connect App. It also comes with a LiveTrack feature to let your loved ones follow along in real-time.
The second product in the lineup is Garmin’s Varia RCT715 (₹40,490). A device that doubles up as a rearview radar and activated tail light with a built-in camera. The device continuously captures 1080p video during a ride while working as a radar throughout the day. To protect you on your perilous journeys the Varia offers Maximum awareness and has an audio and visual alarm to warn riders of approaching vehicles up to 140 yards away (a constant in this country). For those gloomy, hazy and rainy days, you can warn people of your cycle from a mile away with the tail light. It has a 4-6 hour battery life and connects to both the Edge and the app. Best of all, if an incident is detected, video footage from before, during and after the event will automatically be saved on the device.
