When talking about smartwatches, battery life is almost always a bone of contention among users. The folks at Garmin have come up with a rather unique solution, and that is to draw power from a never-ending source – the sun. The new Garmin Instinct 2 smartwatch series can draw power from solar energy, which theoretically gives it unlimited battery life.
The series includes the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S rugged smartwatches, and come in 45mm and 40mm sizes. They boast military-grade certification making them capable of withstanding the wild better than Bear Grylls. They are thermal and shock resistant, up to 100 metres water resistant, and sport a screen that is chemically strengthened and scratch resistant.
As long as you spend at least three hours outside in 50,000 lux conditions, you can use the 45mm variants indefinitely in smartwatch mode, and the 40mm variant in battery saver mode. It is worth noting that the Instinct 2 series also comes in non-solar power mode as well.
As far as its health tracking capabilities are concerned, it has hydration tracking, pregnancy and menstrual monitoring, sleep, body battery, stress, heart-rate, and much more. The standard variants can track all sorts of workouts, and Garmin also has special editions for specific sports like surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and more.
Prices in India start from ₹33,990 for the Instinct 2S, and ₹43,990 for the solar variant. The Instinct 2 prices start from ₹36,990 (non-solar), and go up to ₹51,990 for the Instinct 2 Solar Tactical Edition.
