Honor Magic V is now official, and it brings with it a couple of firsts. It is the first foldable smartphone from Honor’s stable, and it is also the first-ever foldable device with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chip. There’s however not a lot unique with the design, and you can’t help being reminded of a certain Samsung phone.
The overall design concept is similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold, wherein there’s a large folding display on the inside, and a smaller display on the outside. Both the displays on the Magic V are however larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
The Magic V’s internal display measures 7.9in with 2272x1984 pixels resolution, and 10:9 aspect ratio. On the outside, there’s a 6.45in screen with 2560x1080 pixels resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 21:9 aspect ratio.
Under the hood is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip paired with 12GB of RAM, and up to 512GB storage. Making sure everything ticks is a 4,750mAh battery with support for 66W fast charging. The 5G-capable phone runs Android 12-based Magic UI 6.0.
For photography, there’s a triple-cam setup at the back, which includes a 50MP primary lens, 50MP ultra-wide lens, and something Honor calls a 50MP ‘colour spectrum enhanced camera’. For selfies, there are two 42MP lenses fitted into a punch hole.
At the time of filing this story, the Honor Magic V has only been launched in China, and there’s no word at all on an international launch. Prices start from ¥9,999 (approx ₹1,16,000) and go up to ¥10,999 (approx ₹1,27,600).
