Smart glasses are hard to get right. But that isn’t stopping companies from coming up with new ones in the hope that one of them catches consumers’ fancy. The latest to try their luck is Huawei, which has taken the wraps off a pair of smart glasses.
The new smart glasses run on Huawei’s own HarmonyOS, and seemingly only work with the brand’s own devices. They are available in six different styles, including Aviator-style, and come with interchangeable frames.
Being ‘smart’ glasses, they will remind users of appointments, read out messages, provide weather updates, and also answer calls or send messages. The latter is possible courtesy of the built-in stereo speakers, which also let you listen to your favourite music and podcasts.
A lot of the glasses’ features can be controlled via the companion mobile app. There is also support for gestures like swipe and pinch for using the UI while wearing the glasses. They are IPX4 rated, which makes them resistant to splashes of water.
Needless to say, the Huawei smart glasses have been launched in China with a price tag of RMB 1,699 (approx ₹20,000). There’s no word yet on an international launch.
