The Intel 12th gen is not news to anyone and the subsequent onslaught of mobile processors was imminent. Now we finally have confirmation from Intel that the P-series and U-series processors will be coming to more than 250 thin and light laptops from all major players.
The Dells and Asus’ of the world will cram the 12th Gen processors which come with a hybrid architecture. What that means is that there is a combination of Performance-cores (P-cores) and Efficient-cores (E-cores) within those thin and light laptops. Performance cores are pretty self-explanatory. Whenever your workload demands that extra slap of unfiltered power, the performance cores start singing. Efficient cores are higher in number because of their per-watt performance. That means, these cores can deliver a comfortable laptop experience when there’s not much demand for power and this helps the laptop run longer and cooler.
The new core architecture, with up to 14 cores (6 P-cores and 8 E-cores), supports DDR5 RAM, Intel W-iFi 6E and Thunderbolt 4. Only time will tell if these thin and light laptops can take on Apple’s formidable M1 chip.
