Most of us are looking forward to the roll out of iPadOS 16 alongside the new iOS 16. Well, sadly it seems only part of our hopes will be coming true. A strange turn of events will see Apple stagger the two launches, with iOS 16 rolling out in September and iPadOS 16 launch reportedly being pushed into October.

Why so? It seems the blame is to be pinned on Apple’s efforts to overhaul the tablet’s multitasking capabilities. One of the main new features on the software update, Stage Manager, attempts to give iPad owners the ability to resize and arrange windows, as well as have those windows overlap, similar to a laptop setup.

This feature is a significant step in bringing the iPad one step closer to being the true laptop replacement that Apple has promised. But unfortunately, the beta testing has proved tedious and underwhelming for both the developers and users. Apple has thus decided to take a little more time to iron out those bugs and create a better user experience.

Although this step is off the beaten path for Apple, it will give Apple engineers more time to work on iPadOS 16. Additionally, delaying its launch to October will put it closer to the debut of the new Apple hardware. With the announcement of a new iPad Pro with an M2 chip and an entry-level iPad with a USB-C charging port, likely this fall, Apple could roll out the new OS alongside. The company has also revealed that a number of features coming to iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 will not be ready at launch, like the new Live Activities feature. But hey, maybe it's worth the wait!
