What better occasion to unveil your newest Electric Vehicle, than World EV Day? Mahindra has not missed the mark this time, with the launch of the XUV400 – an electric SUV, which is the first of the long list of EVs the company plans to bring over the next few years, as a part of their new electric venture

The XUV400 is a generously sized SUV that has incorporated some of the most cutting-edge technology to offer quality features and high performance from an EV. The 4200 mm long car features a 2600 mm wheelbase, which provides spacious seating and storage (offering boot space of about 378 litres/418 litres). It is also the widest e-SUV in the category at 1821 mm, adding to its standout, distinguishable road presence.

The car offers a 150kph top-speed, producing 310 Nm of instant torque, enabling the SUV to go from 0-100 in 8.3 seconds. But what is truly impressive is the company’s claim of a 456km range on a single charge. These capabilities are all drawn from the 39.4kW battery pack which utilizes Li-ion cells to offer longevity as well as faster charging. Mahindra boasts that it only takes about 50 minutes to juice up the vehicle to 80% using a 50kW DC fast charger. That said, when charged via a 7.2 kW/32A outlet, it takes about six and a half hours to go from 0-100% charge. With a standard 3.3 kW/16A domestic socket, it takes close to 13 hours.

The XUV400 is equipped with multi-drive modes – Fun, Fast, and Fearless (no, that’s not Vin Diesal’s next film). Each mode offers a unique tuning of steering, throttle and regen. The single pedal drive mode dubbed the ‘Lively mode’ enables a more seamless and effortless driving experience in dense traffic.

On the inside, you get a 17.78cm infotainment system equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Connectivity to the BlueSense Plus App offers 60-plus mobile app-based connected features like accessibility to nearby charging points, Mahindra service stations, track vehicle location and so on. It also brings a gamification feature that makes you feel like you are gaming to get the max range out of the car. You can even measure the fun quotient with the ‘thrill-o-meter’.

Most importantly, the XUV400 is well-equipped with comprehensive safety features, including six airbags, disc brakes all around, ISOFIX seats and more. The car will be available in five colourways – Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black and Infinity Blue with a dual-tone roof option in Satin Copper finish. Test drives begin in December while pricing will be announced early next year. So stay tuned for all the relevant updates.
