MWC 2023 has given us a lot to appreciate on its first day. We got regular panelled phones, foldables and even DIY smartphones, but it's time to make way for the rollables. That’s right Motorola’s new concept smartphone launched at MWC is a rollable smartphone.
With everyone going down the route of flip phones or foldables, Motorola has taken a trip down memory lane to visit the Motorola Rizr Z3 device launched in 2006. The first Motorola phone from the classic line of sliding Motorola phones was the original Rizr Z3 model. The new rollable Moto Rizr Z3 smartphone is based on a similar design.
While the new Motorola Rizr Z3 Concept is still quite a secret, reports from a number of sources claim that it has a 5-inch P-OLED display with a 15:9 aspect ratio that can be expanded to a 6.5-inch screen with a 22:9 aspect ratio. Similar to the outer screens of standard clamshell folding smartphones, the screen also wraps around the back and sides of the phone, enabling it to be used as a secondary display to reveal notifications.
There also seem to be two rear cameras and a front-facing selfie camera. The Motorola Rizr Rollable Concept Phone, which weighs about 210 grammes, appears to be very hefty in the video. The software interface is reportedly customised by Motorola to make the most of the new rollable display. In order to do this, the UI and apps must be adjusted according to how the device is being used. A modest 3,000 mAh battery is also anticipated for the Motorola Rizr. This is primarily due to a little engine on the inside taking up some of the inside space and enabling the rolling mechanism.
Motorola has not yet disclosed the specifics and features of this concept phone, but it definitely deviates from the conventional foldable smartphone norm and is a fresh and interesting take in this ever-saturated market of nearly identical smartphones.
