OnePlus enjoyed all the spotlight last night with the launch of the OnePlus 10T smartphone at its New York City launch event. The phone was unveiled with several big upgrades including the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, running on OxygenOS 12.1. The big news didn’t stop there, OnePlus also unveiled its new OS in the works – OxygenOS 13.
The OnePlus 10T along with the OnePlus 10 Pro will receive the new OS update later this year. This new OxygenOS is said to highlight an Aquamorphic design (literally meaning water-like). So expect more fluid performance with a bloat-free user interface. The company claims it has made 595 improvements to OxygenOS 12 to ensure consistency with the upcoming OxygenOS 13 update. The new OS will feature an improved Smart Launcher, Zen Mode, and Fast Pair. This updated AI Booster is said to offer 30% more fluidity, 20% faster app installation, and 10% faster app launches.
In the interface itself, we are likely to see changes to the app icons, notification windows, and widgets that will feature rounded edges. Alongside this, the task manager will display the running apps with a floating effect, which can also be seen for the widgets and app notifications.
There will also be changes to the always-on display (AOD) feature with three new AOD user interfaces called Canvas AOD, Insight AOD, and Bitmoji AOD. Additionally, OnePlus has partnered with Spotify to bring the app's widget to AOD to create a more efficient experience for switching between tracks and controlling your music directly from the AOD. You can even customise a “food delivery” AOD mode to your phone.
The Smart Launcher boosts the phone’s management efficiency while the sidebar window sees some improvements too. The Nearby Share will come with reduced latency and faster transfers. Lastly, the Android Safety System in the OS is the brainchild of Google and OnePlus to allow you to authorise the display of pop-ups with more control over notifications from individual apps. A virtual lock box with OxygenOS 13 helps isolate the files from various other apps and better still, this collaboration brings Audio Switch to OxygenOS 13 with a Spatial Audio feature.
