Richard Mille’s RM UP-01 Ferrari breaks records to become the world's thinnest watch

A million a millimetre…

Richard Mille and Ferrari have teamed up once more to break records and the bank, with the new RM UP-01 Ferrari. At a staggeringly thin 1.75mm (yes, millimetres), this watch has managed to beat out the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra by a massive margin of 0.05mm (for reference, that’s thinner than a strand of hair!).

This ultra-thin brainchild of Richard Mille has used the Scuderia’s precision to assemble the time-piece. The entire movement, about 1.18mm thick, has been placed into the case. The ultra-flat wearable features hours, minutes, seconds and a function selector fanned out across the broad, featherlike rounded rectangular case.

When it comes to the design itself, the time indicator is located at the centre of the top half. So essentially everything surrounding the main time display is a bezel. For setting and winding the watch they have included the crown, just beneath the function sector.

The movement plate comes skeletonized and strength tested allowing it to withstand accelerations of over 5,000 Gs. It additionally includes two black ceramic inserts around both crowns to protect the bezel from friction and provide 10m water resistance.

The time and balance dials are covered in sapphire crystals (why not go all out?) with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The industrial cum racing design is highlighted further by the Ferrari logo inside of a divot. The ultra-limited edition watch will only see 150 pieces being made, each priced at a neat $1.8 million (₹14 crores approx). So if you have that kind of money lying around why not get yourself this time-piece equivalent of a diamond tiara.
