Simulating surround sound from a slim-profile soundbar isn’t new, but to do it on a tight budget isn’t that common either. Sony has lifted the veil on its newest soundbar, the HT-S400 in the international markets where it will retail for about US$300. For roughly around ₹23,000, it includes a wireless subwoofer and can even connect to your TV via Bluetooth.
If you have a recent Sony Bravia TV, it will also show up the soundbar controls directly within the TV’s menu for single remote convenience. Powered by a 200W amplifier for the soundbar itself and another 130W for the subwoofer, this 330W system won’t support Dolby Atmos but instead uses Sony’s S-Force Pro Front Surround tech to simulate a larger soundspace.
You also get a Night mode in case you want to watch Godzilla vs Kong without waking up the neighbours. HDMI ARC and optical inputs ensure you can connect it to TVs both young and old. While the HT-S400 is due to go on sale internationally in April, there’s no indication from Sony India about its release here yet.
