Steam has launched a new native gameplay recording feature called Game Recording, which is currently in its beta stage. This feature lets you record, replay, clip, and share gameplay from your favourite gameplay. It's also designed to work with the Steam Deck handheld gaming device.

Steam Game Recording offers two modes– Background Recording and On Demand Recording. In Background Recording, gameplay is captured automatically without the need for manual initiation. You can designate storage locations and configure settings for gameplay duration and storage limits during setup. When the storage limit is reached, the oldest recordings are overwritten.

On-Demand Recording, on the other hand, requires manual activation and deactivation by the user. This mode also includes a Replay option, allowing you to review captured footage. This functionality proves invaluable for reviewing gameplay instances, whether to analyse errors or revisit missed opportunities.

Game Recording also includes a built-in editor tailored for clipping recordings, enabling players to highlight crucial moments. After clipping, you get the option to save or share these snippets with others. Notably, the feature integrates with the Steam Deck, facilitating the transfer of footage from the handheld console to PCs or mobile devices.

For those eager to explore Steam Game Recording during its beta phase, participation is straightforward. Navigate to Steam Settings, to Interface, and opt for Client Beta Participation. From there, select either Steam Beta Update or Steam Families Beta, initiating your enrollment into the beta program. Afterwards, a quick restart of Steam completes the process.

Once enrolled, journey to Steam Settings and locate Game Recording to tailor the feature to your liking. Options abound – toggle game recording on or off, select between background and on-demand recording modes, and fine-tune settings to suit your preferences.
