Here’s something straight out of the multiverse of madness, an absolutely bizarre collaboration that just makes sense somehow. If you are a fan of karting or MarioKarting, don’t miss out on this one!
Tag Heuer has made it a habit to have innovative and eye-catching collaborations on their watches from NFT to Porsche and MarioKart. All successes as one would assume, this next one is just what we hoped it would be– every plumber’s dream come true! The Tag Heuer Formula 1 X Mario Kart Limited Edition will be available in both Chronograph and Chronograph Tourbillon variants, combining the luxury, high-end watch design of the former with a host of easter eggs– or should we say banana peels– Nintendo’s own Mario Kart.
The 3,000 pieces of the Chronograph edition, will feature Mario’s M symbol etched on the crown, with the Mario Kart logo inscribed on the black polished ceramic tachymeter bezel. Those easter eggs we spoke of? They will appear in the form of a host of Mario Kart items including Bullet Bill, Super Star and the trusty banana, that will regularly appear instead of the date in the date window at 3 o’clock. Whimsical? Indeed. Convenient? About as much as having squid ink on your screen!
The Chronograph Tourbillon timepiece is going to be even harder to get your hands on than that controller from your older sibling! With only 250 units being produced, it sports a slightly larger 45mm case made of grade 5 titanium. Sporting a fine-brushed steel crown and pushers in addition to the same logo placement as found on the Chronograph. This rarer timepiece will also feature a gearwheel that’s designed to look like the rims on a race car tyre, without the F1 wheel caps, thankfully. Cutest of all and perhaps most on brand, the tourbillon mechanism at 6 o’clock shows Mario in his kart rotating with a Blue Shell and Bullet Bill moving in rhythm (or chasing) after him.
Both watches sport a black calf leather strap with contrasting red stitching and lining (very on-brand with both F1 and MarioKart) with a custom embossed pattern. An M symbol also appears on the folding buckle (steel on the Chronograph and titanium on the Tourbillon) and each comes in a black box with a matching travel pouch. Word for the wise… If you do manage to get your hands on one, watch out for those peels, ink and shells because we assure you they are headed your way.
Both Tag Heuer Formula 1 X Mario Kart Limited Edition timepieces will be available exclusively in Tag Heuer stores and on the brand’s website from October 20. Much like the hours we’ve spent in the kart, the prices are sky-high, with the Chronograph costing $4,300 (₹3.5 lakh approx. )and the Chronograph Tourbillon priced at a whopping $25,600 (₹21.7 lakh approx).
