WhatsApp has just rolled out three new updates to secure your conversations and protect your privacy. Some may consider these game changers for the app, while to others it may be a tad frustrating.
The first update is the newfound ability to leave those annoying groups with endless forwards, without a notification saying “ ‘so-and-so’ has left the group”. This means only the admins will be informed of you leaving the chat, saving you some embarrassment and keeping things relatively polite. It is basically the equivalent of sneaking out of a party after only saying bye to the host.
Next up, is a boon to the sender and some would consider it a curse to the receiver. You can now hide your ‘online’ status. Past updates have allowed you to hide your last seen, but now you can handpick who is able to see whether you are online or not.
Last and probably biggest of all, there are updates to “view once” images. The secret message ability was flawed from its conception, with people being able to screenshot the image. In a step to make it more secure, you will no longer be able to take screenshots, basically making it a letter that is burned once seen.
