Whatsapp has been the go-to messaging app for most of us however there is one downside. You can only install it on one device with one number, so if you want to chat on your phone and tablet or switch between work and personal phones, you're out of luck. But after all, it seems you won't actually have to resort to carrier pigeons for all this as Whatsapp has come up with a solution: the Companion Mode.

The Companion Mode is kind of an extension of multi-device support, it will let you link your WhatsApp account to another mobile phone for easy chat access without an active internet connection on the main phone. As of now logging in to your account from any other device requires scanning and authentication from your main device. But with Companion Mode, you can just link to a secondary Android or even up to four devices at once.

There are, however, some restrictions with the secondary device too. The linked device/devices will not have full functionality like the primary device but you’ll still be able to access your chats and chat archives. This feature, as of now, is only available for beta testers who have the newest beta version of WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business on their Android devices so iOS users will have to be patient.

If you still want to try it, you can apply to join the beta program and download the updated version of WhatsApp, which is 2.23.8.2 or later. And, you need to make sure that all devices have the latest beta version installed.
