As all you 80’s kids start to age and feel old AF, it's time to bring back some 90’s nostalgia with the Winamp (yes the very same Winamp) is back. The iconic media player has been rebooted after four long years of beta testing.
The version has been adapted for the modern era, but it has preserved that classic skin and intro audio clip that instantly transports you back to your days of music piracy. To retain the same old feeling, the original skins, like Winamp Classic, Winamp Modern, Bento, and Big Bento are still around for you to easily import.
Although there are few visible changes (not that we are complaining), the real challenge for the developers lay in migrating the entire project from VS2008 to VS2019 and getting it all to build successfully. Sadly, this means you will need at least Windows 7 to run the new Winamp. Although there are still issues and bugs to be fixed, a majority of the foundational work has been completed. The focus has now shifted to implementing features, both old and new.
That said, the new logo and branding may not feel the same as they once did. You can download the new Winamp from the site’s forum, provided you have a compatible Windows OS. Apart from the MP3 player, the company is also going through a kind of expansion with new NFT initiatives and a foundation working to help musicians. Although it seems a bit over-the-top for the reboot, at least, the audio player is still unshakeable.
