Alienware m17 R5 and x17 R2 gaming laptops come with 480Hz displays

Yup, you read that right

Alienware has set out to break through the refresh-rate ceiling with the m17 R5 and x17 R2 gaming laptops. Sporting 480Hz refresh displays, in-game animation will be made smoother, with lower latency and less ghosting. Although, with the prices of the devices combined with their impressive specs, it's safe to say the top-of-the-line models are targetted at a very niche market of professional gamers.

The catch behind this unheard-of refresh rate is that when it comes to resolution, it is only available on the Full HD (1920 x 1080) display. Inversely if you are looking for resolution, you can get the Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) display option but at the cost of the refresh rate which drops to 120 Hz (still pretty decent). The display also comes with Dolby Vision and ComfortView Plus to improve colour quality and ease up on your eyes during those long hours of gameplay.

At the top of the line, the x17 R2 offers a 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900HK processor with an Nvidia GeForce 3080 Ti graphics card, 64 GB of RAM, and a 4TB SSD. You are also provided with various lower-end spec options like less memory, smaller storage capacity or other GeForce RTX 30-series GPUs, which will lower the price tag significantly.

The m17 R5 on the other hand leans more towards AMD hardware with a choice between a Ryzen 7 6800H or Ryzen 9 6900HX for the CPU. Packing in either the Radeon RX 6700M or the Radeon RX 6850M, you can still choose to have one of four GeForce RTX 30-series GPUs, instead. Memory and hard drive options are the same with 16GB to 64GB RAM, and 512GB to 4TB memory. That’s not all, this laptop comes with a suite of AMD software dubbed AMD Smart Technologies to help further enhance your gaming experience. However certain AMD features will only make appearances in select models.

You can purchase these laptops on Dell’s website. The m17 is priced starting at $1,599 (roughly ₹1.28 Lakh) while the x17 laptop starts at $2,249 (roughly ₹1.81 Lakh). If you are keen on purchasing this laptop you might want to hold off just a little while longer because it is only available with 360Hz as the highest refresh rate option at the time of writing.
