Purists like to keep their audio components separate and while this may have worked in the past with a single source, it’s just as effective as wearing a trench coat in Mumbai in May. Marantz, the maker of all things that sound nice has been in the amplifier business for more than 60 years but has recently given its industrial design department a raise. And the results are stunning! The Model 40n is the third component to feature the layered, lit look of the floating front panel.
But more importantly, the Model 40n is supposed to be an accomplished all-in-one amplifier/DAC to which you just add speakers. Featuring a Class A/B amp compared to Class D in the Model 30, Marantz say their Sound Masters have painstakingly curated hundreds of components to ensure only the best are chosen for the desired sound quality. The high-quality DAC also has support for DSD resolution besides 192kHz/24-bit PCM and there is a subwoofer output to augment your main speakers with a little more punch too.
Built in headphone amplifier, HDMI ARC for TV connectivity, phono input for turntables and multiform support on the HEOS platform and even voice control support with Alexa, Siri or Google, the Model 40n has it all! The 70 watt/pc power output should also have old-fashioned audiophiles satiated as well as modern streamers with Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth and Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, Tidal, TuneIn internet radio all built-in.
