I know why you’re here so let’s not waste time with greetings. The Apple iPhone 16 is faster now because Apple skipped the Apple A17 Bionic chip from last year’s Pro models and went directly to the A18 Bionic with the base iPhone. The iPhone 16 comes in two variants as usual, a 6.1-inch and a 6.7-inch iPhone 16 Plus model. The display is also now 50% stronger than the first generation Ceramic Shield.

No titanium love here but the Action Button from the Pro models has come to this base model and you also get a fancy new Camera Control button. It’s got a force sensor that is pressure sensitive and a capacitive sensor for touch interactions. The Camera Control button looks like a fingerprint sensor on iPads but it actually functions like the Home button from the older iPhones. Bear in mind, it is only used for the camera and camera control which means you can hard press it to open the camera and press again to take a picture. Better yet, the force sensor onboard lets you gently press to bring up camera functions and then the touch sensor lets you slide your finger across to control various functions like zoom, exposure, or depth of field.

You can even use Apple Intelligence straight from the camera to point at things and find answers. Apple Intelligence will help you recognise restaurants, add events to your calendar from event flyers and identify dogs. Click here to know more on Apple Intelligence.

The camera itself is now reworked with new pipelines to improve the overall quality. The 48MP main camera enables in-sensor zoom for the 2x optical-quality telephoto option and there’s a new 12MP ultra wide camera with autofocus that enables macro photography. The ultra wide camera also gathers up to 2.6x more light for higher image quality. Additionally, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus now take spatial photos and videos to run on Apple Vision Pro.

There’s also software smarts in the camera with new Photographic Styles which adds filters without changing the skin tones in a photograph. You can also use Photographic Styles in the live preview before clicking.

Video on the iPhones have been the best in class and this time it’s getting even more supercharged with better mic quality. A new way to edit audio is through Audio Mix which allows users to adjust their sound after capture to focus on the voice of the person on camera. You can make it sound like the video was recorded inside a professional studio, or position vocal tracks in the front and environmental noises in surround sound for cinematic effect.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be available in ultramarine, teal, pink, white, and black in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage capacities. Apple iPhone 16 starts at Rs.79,900 and Apple iPhone 16 Plus starts at Rs.89,900.
