Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 Special Edition is a big and powerful gaming laptop

A sheer powerhouse

Asus has launched a gaming laptop that’s as huge, angry looking and powerful as the Hulk. Called the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 Special Edition, it’s got powerful internals and a design featuring invisible ink that shows hidden messages.

Under the hood is a combination of 12th-gen Intel Core i9-12950HX CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU with a maximum TGP of 175W with Dynamic Boost.

While it has the anger of the Hulk, it can also keep itself cool like Dr. Bruce Banner. Asus has worked with Thermal Grizzly on a new thermal compound, called Conductonaut Extreme. The brand claims that this helps in up to 15-degrees reduction in temperatures compared to regular thermal paste.

Display options are the same as on the regular ROG Strix Scar 17. So essentially you can choose between a Full HD 360Hz panel or a Quad HD 240Hz option. ASUS has also redesigned the power adapter to be more compact, while still delivering up to 330W of power. It can juice up the laptop from 0-50% battery in just 30 minutes.

The real beauty of these laptops set to launch later this year, is the design. This laptop comes with special invisible ink that adheres to the metal chassis much better than standard invisible ink. Although subtle in normal lighting, under UV light or blue LED this paint reveals a glow in blue and green, and you can actually uncover a message leading you to a mini-game called SCAR Runner.

The Asus ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition will be available later this year in Q3,with a starting price of £4,000 (approx ₹3,85,000). Additionally, Asus also showcased another high-end gaming laptop, called the ROG Flow X16.
