Balenciaga's Mercedes AMG face shield is for shy people who love the attention

The designer equivalent of a helmet

If you are familiar with fashion at the moment, you might have noticed the bizarre things celebrities wear. Of all the trends we’ve seen of late, the meme-inspiring, Alien-esque face-covering Kim Kardashian wore to Balenciaga's post-couture dinner, would have to be the strangest thing. Well, now you can something similar too. Designed for the Fall 2022 Couture, the bizarre collaboration between Mercedes-AMG F1 Applied Science and Balenciaga has brought designer face shields to us average Joes (providing you can afford it).

These slick shields are made using tinted polyurethane and boast anti-fog technology. Engineered to supposedly optimise airflow, improve performance metrics, and ensure a stabilised CO2 intake, there might be some real purpose to it after all (apart from scaring the masses).

If you are looking to get your hands (or rather face) on one of these, it might be slightly more costly than you’d hoped. You will need tickets to Paris as it is being exclusively sold at Balenciaga’s recently opened couture store at 10 Avenue George V. If you do manage to get one of these…good luck eating!
