Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025: BMW X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric is BMW’s first ‘Made in India’ EV

A powerful, spacious SUV – 204 hp and a MIDC range of 531 km!

BMW India has launched its first-ever electric vehicle made in India—the BMW X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric—at the Auto Expo 2025. Produced locally at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai, this electric SUV is available exclusively in the eDrive20L variant. It can be yours for ₹49,00,000.

The X1 comes in five metallic colours – Mineral White, Carbon Black, Portimao Blue, Sparkling Copper Grey, and Skyscraper Grey. The BMW X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric features a sharper design with more space inside. Its exterior speaks to its SUV identity, with BMW calling it one of the longest 5-seater SUVs in India.

Up front, you'll find the signature BMW kidney grille paired with fully Adaptive LED headlights that stretch across the sides. The side profile showcases sculpted surfaces and a long roofline, accentuated by Aluminium Satinated roof rails, square wheel arch contours, and 18-inch M light alloy wheels. The rear features a large surface diffuser and sleek sculpted LED lights.

Inside, the BMW X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric features a Widescreen Curved Display, a clean dashboard with ‘Aluminium Mesheffect’ trim and a Luxury Instrument Panel. The beige headliner adds a two-tone feel to the cabin, while the M Sport steering wheel and blue ring finisher logo enhance its sporty appeal. For audio, there’s a Harman Kardon system with 12 speakers and 205W output, complemented by the Panorama sunroof, which BMW claims is the largest in the segment.

Under the hood, the fifth-generation BMW eDrive tech features an integrated drive unit housed in a single unit. Powered by an electric motor on the front axle and paired with a single-speed transmission, it delivers 204 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The high-voltage lithium-ion battery offers a gross capacity of 66.4 kWh, providing a MIDC range of 531 km, as per BMW. Plus, the X1 provides fast charging – 10%-80% in 29 minutes with a 130 kW DC charger and a full charge in about 6 hours 30 minutes with an 11 kW AC charger.

The BMW X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric features the latest BMW iDrive, powered by BMW Operating System 9. For safety, it includes Driver Assistance Systems such as Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Assistant, Cruise Control with Braking Function, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Pedestrian Protection. Standard safety features include eight airbags, ABS with Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control, electric parking brake with auto hold, side-impact protection, ISOFIX child seat mounting, and a tyre repair kit.
