Canon’s highly-anticipated EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II are now in India

For ₹6,30,995 and ₹4,05,995 (respectively)

Canon has introduced the latest additions to its EOS R camera lineup — the EOS R1 and R5 Mark II. The new Canon EOS R1 features a proprietary back-illuminated stacked 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and the new Digic X and Digic Accelerator image processors. Canon claims that the combination provides exceptional image processing and autofocus capabilities.

The R1 features a 0.64-inch OLED viewfinder with 9.44 million dot resolution and a 119.88fps refresh rate. It supports Canon Log-2, Log-3, and HLG profiles for versatile colour grading options. The camera can achieve up to 12fps continuous speed with a mechanical and electronic first curtain shutter, and 40fps with an electronic shutter, with a peak shutter speed of 1/64,000 seconds using the electronic shutter.

In terms of video capabilities, the EOS R1 can shoot 6K/60p footage in Canon's proprietary raw format and 4K video at up to 120p, offering up to six hours of movie recording on a single charge.

The Canon EOS R1 comes equipped with dual CFexpress Type B memory card slots, supporting up to 2TB each. The camera is powered by an LP-E19 battery that can be conveniently charged through a USB cable. Connectivity options abound with Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, Ethernet, and USB-C.

The Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system on the EOS R1 significantly enhances subject tracking and detection for both video and still photography. It introduces a Register People Priority function, allowing the camera to track pre-registered individuals even in crowded settings or when their faces are turned sideways. The camera also introduces the new Action Priority AF mode, which automatically shifts the focus to subjects in motion, making it particularly beneficial for sports photographers aiming to capture pivotal moments. Additionally, it has an eye control AF feature, allowing users to select focus points or track subjects by simply looking at them through the electronic viewfinder.

Meanwhile, the Canon EOS R5 Mark II also features the advanced Digic Accelerator processor alongside the Digic X processor. This model is equipped with a 45-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor. Its 0.5-inch OLED viewfinder offers a 5.76 million-dot resolution with refresh rates of 59.94 and 119.88 fps.

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II delivers continuous shooting speeds of up to 12fps with the mechanical shutter and electronic first curtain, and up to 30fps with the electronic shutter. It supports shutter speeds up to 1/32,000 seconds. In terms of video recording, the R5 Mark II can capture 8K video at 60fps, 4K at 120p, and full-HD at 240p. The addition of the CF-R20EP cooling fan accessory (sold separately) is claimed to extend recording times.

The Canon EOS R1 is priced at ₹6,30,995 in India. The LP-E6P battery is available for ₹7,995, the standard battery grip costs ₹34,995, and the cooling fan battery grip is priced at ₹40,995. Additionally, the battery grip with LAN is available for ₹80,995. The camera and accessories are expected to go on sale by the end of November.

Meanwhile, the Canon EOS R5 Mark II is set at ₹4,05,995 for the camera body alone. Those interested in a kit can opt for the R5 Mark II along with the RF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens for ₹5,05,995.
