Dolby Vision support is coming to Xbox Series S and X

It’s no surprise that more games are quickly adopting HDR formats. Although the execution on PC is rather questionable, consoles have always managed to flesh out the best contrasts from games. Unlike traditional HDR, Dolby Vision is a format tuned by the folks at Dolby with dynamic metadata. We won’t get into the details but it means Dolby Vision is essentially HDR on steroids. It’s also backwards compatible and Xbox says that games that support HDR will be able to display Dolby Vision as well. It’s essentially at the game design level and only through tweaks, remasters and cracking open a cold one with the Dolby and Xbox folks. So far we only know that the upcoming Halo Infinite will support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Xbox says more than 100+ HDR games will be optimised for Dolby Vision on the Xbox Series S and X. Obviously you’ll need a telly that supports Dolby Vision and also gaming features like ALLM. Tellies that support 120Hz refresh rate will need to gossip with Dolby and Microsoft and bring the update to support Dolby Vision on the high refresh rate. So now the Xbox Series X and S have Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio support.
