Garmin has been at the forefront of sports watches for a while, and adding to that extensive list is a pair of new watches meant for runners. Enter the Garmin Forerunner 955 and the Forerunner 255.
The Forerunner 955 is the top-of-the-line variant available in regular and solar models. With a touchscreen and the signature Garmin five-button design, these watches are power houses with multi-band GPS, full colour maps, improved accuracy, and about 49 hours of battery life in GPS mode. This can be extended with the solar variant, which uses Power Glass solar charging lens technology to boost battery life to about 20 days.
At 5mm smaller, the 41mm dainty 255s models’ small size is the only major difference when compared to the 955. With a 14-day battery life and 30 hours in GPS mode, this series has avoided the touchscreen technology of the Forerunner 955. Both the 255 Music and 255s music can store up to 500 songs and stream music easily.
The new Garmin watches are focused on Training readiness, which is an indicator of how well you’ve rested and recovered. It displays a gauge that enables you to see how ready you are to test your limits. They also include HRV status or “heart rate variability”, which constantly tracks your heart rate during sleep to help you better understand and handle recovery and overall wellness.
There’s also a “Morning Report” feature that recommends workouts based on your training goals and provides you with all the information you need for your day. Additionally, you get the usual Garmin health metrics and features here, such as Pulse Oximeter measurements, VO2 Max, training status, Garmin Coach, and more.
Both new Garmin watches are available in the UK and the US, with prices starting from $350 (approx ₹27,100) for the Garmin Forerunner 255. Prices for the Garmin Forerunner 955 start from $500 (approx ₹38,700).
