GoPro’s 4K Hero action camera is getting a big upgrade. A free firmware update, downloadable via the GoPro app, unlocks a new 4:3 aspect ratio video mode. The 4:3 ultra-wide and tall video setting makes the tiny 86-gram Hero the smallest, lightest and widest-angle GoPro ever.
The new 4:3 aspect ratio maximises the sensor, capturing the full height and width of the image. GoPro says it's perfect for immersive first-person shots, wider selfies, and taller videos that are ideal for sharing directly to social media platforms. Plus, if you need a more traditional widescreen look, you can crop the 4:3 videos to 16:9.
