Ikea's new Kreativ tool uses AI and AR to help you redesign your home

You can place Ikea furniture into your designs, and buy things straight through the app

Ikea has launched its Kreativ AI and AR design tool in India, which  is already available to use through the official Ikea app. Once setup, users can use the Kreativ tool within the app to design a space of their own, allowing them to visualise furniture from Ikea being placed in your own space. While users can pick up any of the pre-existing studio designs and place Ikea furniture into it, the more useful approach involves capturing your own home space through the immersive experience offered on the app.

The tool uses AI and AR to allow you to place and move around furniture, as well as remove existing furniture virtually to be able to get an idea of how Ikea furniture will look in its place. The new tool was launched at Ikea's annual Ikonic event in India, and showcased various new initiatives from Ikea for its stores and e-commerce operations in India. Currently, Ikea has four stores in India, located in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

“IKEA KREATIV, combines decades of Life at Home expertise with cutting-edge spatial computing, machine learning, and 3D mixed reality technologies, offering a revolutionary way for customers to visualise and personalise their living spaces. According to IKEA's Life at Home report, 56% of Indians plan to move or renovate in the next two years, making decor an essential part of this journey. With KREATIV, users can bring their inspiration—from pop culture, social media trends, or even the neighbour’s home—to life with a simple drag-and-drop interface. This tool empowers consumers to become their own designers, confidently experimenting with furnishings and decor before making a purchase. As we continue to roll out KREATIV globally, including in India, we're also exploring AI integration to enhance recommendations and elevate the user experience, ensuring that every home can truly reflect its owner's vision,” says Bhavana Jaiswal, head of e-commerce at IKEA India.
The new Kreativ tool is already integrated into the Ikea India app, and can be accessed through the profile menu. Users can directly purchase any chosen items through the app itself, and also save design and models for future reference.
