Although subject to many memes over the years, Internet Explorer holds a special place in all our hearts. The browser that raised a generation is finally being put down to rest.
The once-dominant browser has put in an impressive tenure of 27 years. That being said, it’s time for it to join the dial-up modems, iPods, floppy disks and CDs in glorious tech heaven.
The browser definitely had its ups and downs over the years, but it is no surprise that it is coming to a close. With Microsoft pushing the Edge browser, launched in 2015, they made claims stating it was more secure, modern and more compatible with older websites and applications. This was effectively the nail in the coffin for Internet Explorer.
Despite its rich history, Internet Explorer came to be known as a slow, bug-ridden browser, prone to crashing and vulnerable to hacks.
It hasn’t really stood a chance in recent times, with Chrome dominating the worldwide browser market, followed by Apple's Safari, Edge and Firefox.
