Lomography’s wide-angle LomoApparat is a nod to the 35mm window into the past

Aim and shoot!

The world of photography has definitely seen its fair share of changes, some good, some less amusing. While few are upset that photography no longer involves standing under a black cloth for a fair part of the day, we do miss the good old days of point-and-shoot cameras. The candidness of the pictures is something the iPhones and filters of today just can’t seem to capture. If you belong to this rare breed of camera geek, you will be glad to know that Lomography is reprising good old-fashioned cameras with its newest LomoApparat wide-angle and point-and-shoot cam.

Oh, and unlike most of us, it isn’t all alone. It is accompanied by a bundle of accessories. These artisans of the analogue have brought us the camera in two forms– the black leather version, channelling the design of the 50s and 60s and the Neubau edition. The latter is definitely more eye-catching with tan Italian leather over a white body with turquoise highlights.

Both models pack on a 21mm wide-angle fixed lens that squeezes a decent bit more of a scene into your snaps compared to a 35mm compact. The selection of attachments for mixing up your shooting style consists of a close-up attachment, good for a 20cm focus distance, the Splitzer to help with multiple exposures, and the Kaleidoscope will turn your pics into something bizarre (cause who doesn’t love a smidge of madness?). The devices promise the sort of vintage character in the images, we have grown to expect from analogue– yes, that means grainy film, moody contrast, deeply saturated colours and distinctive vignetting.

The built-in flash slides out of the body to provide you with interchangeable coloured gel filters to bring that disco effect even without a party. There’s also a long exposure function, while the rest stays fixed so you don’t need to fiddle with settings every time you want to press the shutter button.

While it isn’t available in India just yet, you can definitely ask some relatives to get you one on their future travels. The cameras are available on the Lomography website starting at £89 (₹8,300 approx). However, Lomography tells us that this will ship to India directly if you order off the Lomography website. Cool, right? So definitely add it to your bucket list of items to make you that quirky millennial who loves all things vintage!
