Moto Razr 2022 is a folding flagship with top-notch specs

Bend over backwards to get your hands on it

This week is all about flexibility when it comes to smartphones with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 entering the market. Stepping into this race to be the most flexible phone out there, is Motorola’s Moto Razr 2022. Following in the footsteps of the original reborn Razr and Razr 5G, this third-gen phone sports a small outer display with a larger, folding internal one. Only this time Motorola has ditched that ugly notch present on the predecessors.

The 6.7in display covers the entire inside of the handset. With 10bit colour, HDR10+ video playback and a whopping 144Hz refresh rate (higher than most foldables), Motorola has even minimised the visibility of the screen crease. This has been achieved by using a hinge mechanism that folds the flexible OLED panel into a teardrop shape. This allows you to contort the phone into the half-open position or even angled for watching videos without having to prop it up or buy a stand.

On the outside, you get a 2.7in external display with an assortment of new widgets meaning you don't have to flip it open as much as you used to. To accompany these visuals, the phone packs in Dolby Atmos sound through the built-in speakers. When it comes to cameras, you get a 50MP main snapper with optical image stabilisation, and a 13MP ultrawide with autofocus. Additionally, there is a punch-hole 32MP camera to quench your selfie needs.

Under the hood, the phone packs a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU, paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. All this is backed by a 3,500mAh battery with 33W wired charging.

These features are all a big step up from the models in the past, and prices start at ¥5,999 (approx ₹70,000), but don’t expect the exchange rate to be quite as nice when it comes to the rest of the world.
