Times have definitely changed. We have gone from attempting to break the sturdy Nokia to learning how to repair it ourselves! Nokia has spent the last couple of years talking about the lifecycle of its devices but this new development courtesy of its partnership with iFixit is out to make home repairs a reality.
Unlike those super “helpful” 5-minute craft DIY videos, HMD Global has designed the new Nokia G22 with DIY repair in mind. The necessity for things like heat to soften adhesives will be eliminated, allowing you to access the device's internal components using simple tools like a pick and a screwdriver. Also, it will be simple for you to purchase spare parts, enabling you to quickly fix the phone's most often damaged components.
With the ability to purchase replacement screens, batteries, and USB-C charging ports from iFixit, you can simply order the parts you need when you need them and complete the fix yourself. The fact that the device warranty is unaffected is the nicest part. Of course, you could pay someone else to do the repairs for you but the point is to make the repairs accessible and reasonable so you won't have to pay exorbitant repair costs and your Nokia G22 will live longer (not that we are anyone to question Nokia’s unmatched longevity!).
In addition to introducing us to the new Nokia G22, Nokia also opened up the phone to do the battery repair at the same time. It was a task that took less than 5 minutes, so it doesn't appear too difficult for anyone willing to have a fiddle.
The Nokia G22 costs £149.99 (₹15,000 approx.), has a 6.5-inch HD+ display, runs on Unisoc T606 hardware, has 4GB of RAM, and supports microSD cards for 64/128GB of storage. You can read our Nokia MWC launch stories here to find out more about the new Nokia smartphones.
