MWC 2023: Nokia’s latest G22 is the first smartphone you can repair at home

Show off your DIY ability!

Nokia just launched its latest G22 smartphone and it is the brand’s first device that you can fix at home. Yes, you read it right. Nokia has partnered with iFixit and they offer manuals and tools with the aim of making it easier for you to fix your smartphone. For Nokia G22, you’ll be able to access guides and purchase FixKits that contain the tools and parts you need to replace flat batteries, broken screens, bent charging ports, and scratched covers. So basically you would only require a few basic tools and a walkthrough from iFixit, and Voila! Cool, right? But technical skills are still in question.

There is not just QuickFix repairability that you get in the G22. There is more, the smartphone’s high-gloss back cover is made from 100% recycled plastic – so extra points for that. Moving on to the regular features, the smartphone has a 6.52in HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness. A 50MP Main AF lens, 2MP Depth, 2MP Macro and an 8MP front camera. There are also features like Night mode, Tripod mode, AI portrait, Personalized watermarks and OZO surround recording. And, with OZO Playback, Nokia ensures the G22 balances headphone output for a fine-tuned audio experience.

Then, there is a Memory extension tool that turns unused storage space into additional virtual RAM for smoother performance and an auto-clear performance optimizer that closes unused apps running in the background to free up processing power. The brand also states that the new smartphone comes with 3-day battery life in addition to 3 years of warranty and monthly security updates and 2 years of Android upgrades.

With the G22, Nokia also launched the C22 and C32. The C22 comes with a 3-day battery life too and a 5000mAh battery along with improved drop protection and spill resistance. It runs on the Android 13 Go edition and has an octa-core chipset and memory extension feature.

The C32, on the other hand, comes with a toughened glass back and a metallic-finish frame for a refined look and feel. There is a 50MP rear sensor for capturing more light plus Night mode for both front and back cameras along with Android 13. The battery life of C32 is similar to C22. To know the prices of these devices, you’ll have to come back here when Nokia decides to launch them in India.
