Netflix is rolling out a new rating system for users to express their love for a show or movie. So far the only way to rate a show or movie is to hit the thumbs up or thumbs down button. But now, Netflix is rolling out a double thumbs up button.
When users hit the thumbs up or thumbs down button, Netflix understands their preferences and accordingly shows their preferred content on the homepage. With the double thumbs up button, Netflix will be able to understand what a particular viewer really really likes and wants to watch.
So, for instance, if you give Bridgerton a single thumbs up, then Netflix will recommend similar shows on your feed. But a double thumbs up will mean more shows and films will be recommended that include Bridgerton’s cast or other titles from Shonda Rhimes.
Netflix introduced these ratings buttons after ditching the five-star rating system back in 2017. “We’ve learned over time that these feelings can go beyond a simple like or dislike. Providing an additional way to tell us when you’re really into something means a profile with recommendations that better reflect what you enjoy,” writes Christine Doig-Cardet, Director of Product Innovation at Netflix.
The additional double thumbs up button is rolling out starting today, and will be available on Netflix web, TV, Android and iOS apps.
