The new Apple iPad Pro has been unveiled and even though it’s a dead ringer of the previous generation from the outside, the device has got some intriguing upgrades on the inside with Apple’s latest M2 chipset. As per the brand, the new chipset has a 15% faster CPU and 35% faster GPU in comparison to the former M1, making machine learning tasks easy peasy.
For the nerdy readers: the M2 chip, also found on the 2022 MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro, features 100GB of unified memory bandwidth and supports up to 16GB of fast unified memory for making multitasking more fluid and smooth.
Along with an updated touchscreen and iPadOS 16, the novel iPad Pro comes with a brand new Apple Pencil Hover Experience feature. As the name suggests, this feature allows the device to detect the Apple Pencil from 12mm above the display offering a new dimension to use the Pencil more effortlessly while making the experience more intuitive as well as accurate.
The new-gen iPad Pro also houses the latest connectivity tech, it supports Wi-Fi 6E which allows downloads up to 2.4Gbps, 2x faster than previous models. Plus, there is updated Bluetooth 5.3 support and 5G connectivity on the LTE models.
Some of the features are exactly like the previous gen device like the four-speaker audio system with spatial audio. The camera hardware is also similar to the previous model but there are improved features: courtesy of the new chipset. There is a new ProRes encoder that enables the device to record videos directly in Apple's high-quality ProRes codec and transcode it up to 3x faster. The still camera functionality is also upgraded from Smart HDR 3 to Smart HDR 4.
Moving on to the most important part – the price. So just like looks, the cost of the new iPad Pro is also similar to the previous iteration. The 11in version starts at ₹81,900 while the 12.9in pro device starts at ₹96,900. Which brings back the question, what is a laptop?
