Our first glimpse of Indus, India’s first AAA battle royale game

Made for the Indians, by the Indians

SuperGaming studio’s next big project is the highly-anticipated battle royale game, Indus. This Indo-Futuristic (as they like to call it) AAA battle royale is a free-for-all and will be available on iOS, Android, PC and consoles. The Pune-based studio has decided to create a high-quality game made by Indians, for Indians (who apparently make up over 350 million battle royale players worldwide) and for the rest of the world, of course.

The game uses Unity as a base engine alongside a custom-built sandbox shooter tech stack known as the Indus Engine. We haven’t received an exact release date, but we do have a sneak peek into the gameplay and it seems pretty promising.

With the game set to take place on an ever-changing island map called Virlok, the map will probably be altered and upgraded on a regular basis. According to the video tweeted by Indus Game, there seems to be rain in parts of the map as well. Adding a weather system in a battle royal could be a fresh experience. Another video cropped up on Twitter through Rishi Alwani who is working with SuperGaming and that shows us how close the crouching mechanics feel compared to other battle royale games like Apex Legends. The two videos share a distinctive appeal where the sunlit sides of the map feel closer to the colour palette used in Apex Legends meanwhile the rainy weather adds a sense of drama which feels closer to PUBG PC.

The game will also feature a Battle Pass progression mechanic, typical to most free battle royale games, and it will also focus on having an extremely robust anti-cheat system since the developers want to create an extremely level playing field.

The ambitious project doesn’t plan on stopping at video games. According to the interview conducted by MySmartPrice, SuperGaming CEO Roby John says the brand may flirt with plans to potentially make a TV series based on Indus which could be interesting given the backstory they have provided. It gives us the life story of Mythwalker, a hired gun working for COVEN, which is an intergalactic syndicate that discovered an ancient and mysteriously scientifically advanced world called Indus.
