Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 processor is designed to bring 5G to entry-level smartphones

Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 mobile platform, designed to bring 5G connectivity to entry-level smartphones. According to Qualcomm, “This mobile platform will make 5G accessible to 2.8 billion smartphone users in select regions, offering peak download speeds up to 1 Gbps.”

Built on a 4nm process, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 SoC supports various camera configurations, including up to 16 MP + 16 MP dual cameras with 30 FPS Zero Shutter Lag, a single 32 MP camera with 30 FPS Zero Shutter Lag, and up to 108 MP photo capture. It features the Qualcomm Spectra Image Signal Processor, dual 12-bit ISPs, and supports 1080p single video capture at 60 FPS, 1080p dual video capture at 30 FPS, and slow-motion video capture at 720p at 120 FPS. Additionally, it is capable of handling 40W charging and supports FHD+ displays with refresh rates up to 90 Hz.

The octa-core Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 processor features two performance cores clocked at 2 GHz and six efficiency cores at 1.8 GHz. It supports LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, providing efficient memory and fast data access. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and dual-band NavIC for enhanced accuracy.

Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset also supports AI-enhanced audio. The chipset will start shipping by the end of 2024 to power smartphones priced under USD 100 (approximately Rs. 8,500). Initially, Xiaomi will adopt this chipset for markets like India to make 5G phones more affordable.
