CES 2022: Samsung Micro LED leads TV war

Three super-sized models to come first

After years of battling with OLED for the gold standard in TVs, LED finally has a comeback in the form of Micro LED. And Samsung is going all out with its 2022 range that consists of three models - 89, 101 and 110in sizes, all boast of a 99.9% screen-to-body ratio and that clearly hints at the technology’s top-down approach.

Made up of an astounding 25 million micrometer sized LEDs, it allows control for brightness and colour over 1 million steps, making it ideal for the rich metadata embedded in HDR content. It supports 20-bit greyscale depth and 100% of the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB colour space, all of which basically means that you will be able to see Spiderman’s suit in more stunning colours and detail than ever before. At least in theory. But, there’s more to it than eye-popping picture quality.

The Micro LED range will also have Multi View, a feature that lets you view content from all four HDMI input sources at once, all of them with up to 4K/120fps! You can also display artwork from renowned artist Refik Anadol when the TV is in Art Mode and when you’re in the mood for a blockbuster, the top, side and bottom-firing speakers all work in tandem to bring Dolby Atmos to life!
