Segway launches an extreme e-scooter that is freaking fast

For riders with a wild side

Kick scooters are fun and come with some environmental benefits, but aren’t what you would say fast or extreme. Until now that is. Segway’s latest e-scooter is so fast, it claims you can do a wheelie on it.
The Segway GT2 looks like any of the standard kick scooters, until you twist the throttle. When you do, it blasts its way up to a top-speed of 70kph, and can reach 0-48 kph in just four seconds. It may not sound too exciting on paper, but in the e-scooter world this is the equivalent of a souped up sports car.
This performance is courtesy of a pair of electric motors with a combined power of 3,000W. If that sounds too much to handle, one can use the companion smartphone app to dial down the power delivery.
Handling this ferocity is a pair of 11in tires with wider-than-usual 92mm treads, and a built-in ‘jelly layer’ that has some level of self-healing properties.
On top of the handlebars is a transparent OLED screen that has all the essential info like speed, battery, ride modes, and more. Speaking of battery, Segway says the scooter can travel up to 90km on a single charge.
Needless to say, such an extreme scooter is unlikely to be road legal in many cities. Nonetheless, Segway says the best way to enjoy the GT2 is on the tracks. While the official prices aren’t out yet, reports hint at an eye-watering price tag of $3,999 (approx ₹3,05,600).
