Snapchat gets one step closer to the AR shopping ease

Snap it, like it, bag it

Shoppers are always looking to play dress up but Snapchat has taken it a step further. The Dress Up section on the app now literally has clothes and accessories from creators and retailers powered by AR. Using Augmented Reality, each piece of clothing is 3D modelled by the creator and can be worn like a filter by the customer. Snapchat has also included a handy checkout section so you don’t waste time thinking about your mortgage.

On the brand side, the Snap 3D Asset Manager makes it faster and easier for businesses to build augmented reality shopping assets. Any product in their catalogue can be created, optimised and managed as a 3D model. The Camera Kit for AR Shopping (that’s what it’s called) by Snapchat can be used by brands to leverage the AR tech on their own apps too.

Snapchat’s AR tech will also start to support Ray Tracing to make jewellery and other objects appear life-like. Somebody has to take the initiative to keep our shopaholic loved ones away from Snapchat, although we don’t know how soon we’ll see this feature implemented in India.
