Sony breaks the silence, launching the PlayStation VR2 headset early next year

Virtual Reality, here we comeā€¦

We have been speculating about the PlayStation VR2 gaming headset for quite some time now. Finally, we have been given some clarity. Sony has confirmed that the headset will launch early next year. That said, we still await an exact date, but at least we now know it's coming for sure and pretty soon, too!

The PSVR2 will come with a colour scheme to match the PS5 console along with a familiar headband-type visor seen on the first PS VR. This time the company has promised to pack on unique vibrating feedback and controllers with advanced haptics. With support for eye-tracking, a 110-degree field of vision, the headset has foveated rendering technology that focuses only on where the fovea of the eye to maximize resolution and boost graphics with fewer pixels.

Oh, that's not all. The headset has passthrough cameras to show you the real world from inside the headset, by scanning walls, floors and obstacles like chairs and desks. This will keep you from bumping into your furniture and destroying those oh-so-precious valuables in your house (and your shins of course) while immersed in the gameplay. It features a live broadcast mode using the PS5’s TV-mounted camera to record footage for a single stream.

The PlayStation VR2 will sport displays with up to 4K resolution and comes with support for a 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rate. The device can be connected to the console using a single USB-Type C cable, for extra convenience and you will be able to play anything from their 20-game lineup. This includes big titles like Horizon, Walking Dead, No Man’s Sky and Resident Evil. All this will be available early next year when the headset is officially launched.
