If you are one of those obsessed audiophiles who can’t be reasoned with, here is one for you. Sony has released a new digital music player. Yeah, you read that right, music players! To us average Joes, it may seem like something we haven’t heard or thought about for a while. But, to the kind of person who’d be willing to spend $3,700 (around ₹2.89 lakh) on what filters into their eardrum, this may just be the perfect product!
The ultra-high-end Walkman music player, the NW-WM1ZM2 combines an S-Master HX digital amp with ‘fine-tuned’ capacitors, thick Kimber Kable and 99.99 percent pure gold-plated, oxygen-free copper chassis (explains the high price tag). That isn't all, it’s smarter too. The Android-based player, includes a 256GB of expandandable storage, a larger 5in 720p display. Sony says it can last you a good 40 hours on battery.
It’s also got improved upscaling algorithm for CD quality, WiFi streaming, a USB-C port and ability to support MQA and WAV.
If all this is a bit excessive for your taste, you can always get the lower cost model, relatively, that is, with the $1,400 NW-WM1AM2, which is similar in function, but ‘only’ uses a low-resistance oxygen-free copper cable and 128GB of expandable space instead.
Now that you have the perfect player, we wish you well on your journey to find the perfect headphones to go with it. Maybe subscribe to our sister magazine What? Hi-Fi.
