The Google Pixel Tablet snaps into a Google Home dock

Wait, what!

Google’s third attempt at making a tablet seems like the best one yet. The company has had its attempts at taking on the iPads and Samsungs of the world and, after reiterating three times right from Nexus to Google Slate to now Pixel Tablet, the tablet department at Google HQ is hoping this one connects with you, me and the number of Google Home users here in India. Even if it doesn’t, the Google Pixel Tablet will connects to a dedicated Bluetooth speaker dock which turns the thing into a Google Nest Hub of sorts. Pretty cool.

Google hasn’t shared the specifics of the internals but what we do know is that the Pixel Tablet is more close to a Pixel smartphone in terms of OS support and the CPU chip. It has the same Google Tensor G2 processor and the Material You software that lets you tweak the UI just like you would on a Pixel smartphones. With support for the big display and some split-screen multitasking chops obviously.

The tablet gets a charging dock which has a speaker built-in and you can seamlessly go between tablet mode and… dock mode? Whatever it will be called, the bottom line is that the whole thing is as simple as picking up your tablet to fiddle with and then placing it back on the dock when you don’t want to use it. In dock mode it’ll work as a Google Nest Hub device for your Google Home interactions. Pricing and available is pushed to 2023, so maybe we’ll get more details then.
